A number of Shorewood High School administrators are in the early stages of developing a marketing video to advertise SHS. Among them are Assistant Principal Tim Kenney and Director of Instruction Deb Taylor. Very little has actually been done, but the group has discussed their personal feelings on the topic.

Ideally, the video would convince people to move to Shorewood with their families, and more than that, send their children through Shorewood schools. Kenney stated that there are over three hundred kids in Shorewood that do not attend Shorewood schools, attending private schools instead. Convincing these families to send their children to Shorewood would increase enrollment.

In addition, many young families choose to live in suburbs where they get, as Kenney put it, “more bang for their buck, in terms of a big lawn and that type of thing.” The committee is asking itself, “What do we have that those other communities don’t?” A marketing video would help get that point across to the general public.

According to Kenney, other schools have taken similar action, promoting their videos on YouTube or through other forms of media. He also stated that if they do decide to create a marketing video, it would most likely be in DVD format, as something “that can be replicated easily and be produced for very little cost.”

The group will continue to meet and discuss the idea of creating a marketing video. Eventually, some students may become involved; however, the future of this project is not entirely clear.
